The international battle over Huawei escalated last week when Polish authorities arrested two people, including a Huawei executive, and charged them with spying for China.
Huawei is controlled secretly by a faction within the Communist Party of China headed by former leader Jiang Zemin, and his son, Jiang Mianheng, president of the ShanghaiTech University. Jiang Mianheng is one of China’s most powerful technology leaders who has links to numerous companies, including Huawei, Guo said.
U.S. intelligence officials have said Huawei has worked on behalf of Chinese intelligence since at least 2014 when Huawei attempted to gain access to information at the National Security Agency through a U.S. defense contractor. It could not be learned if the attempt was successful.
