Bush's loyalists had to bring to bear the full arm-twisting might of one-party government, and break House rules, to eke out a defeat of a perfectly sensible plan to impose some budget accountability.

Without action by Congress, a portion of the 2001 and 2003 tax relief will expire this year, and millions of families will face large, immediate tax increases.

State Representative Troy Hebert (D-Jeanerette) lost his position this week as head of the state House Insurance Committee because he would not vote for Kathleen Blanco's renewal of the 2.8% sales taxes of business utilities.

Taxpayer audits rose 14 percent in the 2003 fiscal year - 24 percent for those earning $100,000 or more - according to the Internal Revenue Service. States aren't giving taxpayers a break either, stepping up audits or imposing more severe penalties for tax evaders.

The Nussle budget is the best alternative if you want to keep the economy growing, keep the country secure, and keep spending under control. If you want to keep the government growing, keep the tax burden rising, keep jobs flowing overseas, and make America less secure, you can find a Democratic budget alternative that is more to your liking.

Imagine: an American journalist using his cover for the most prominent paper in the country to inform on and demonize select political critics of the government! The Godfather had his "newspaper friends" on the payroll, and the IRS has theirs: David Cay Johnston.

David Cay Johnston, a celebrated New York Times reporter, reveals in his recent book, Perfectly Legal, his history of acting as a government informant against political dissenters on behalf of his best government sources. Criticized by many for his lack of journalistic integrity,
Johnston's revelations in his book still shock the conscience. Johnston's informing and propaganda at the behest of favored insiders induced audits, secret surveillance, and criminal prosecutions of select political targets.

Johnston details case after case where he used his cover as a New York Times reporter to elicit information from political dissenters, then disclosed that information to others. How many people would know this friendly reporter was really there as a federal agent? Johnston gathered information on the names of the people in protest movements, uncovered the locations of their meetings, elicited the intentions of movement leaders, and even tried
to induce some of them to incriminate themselves. Johnston's informing has now allowed the agency to blacklist select political targets.

Johnston's disclosures dovetail with his role as a public relations agent of the government -- propagandizing from the front pages of the Times whenever the hardliners need publicity to prosecute disfavored political groups. (Not surprisingly, Johnston rose to fame during the Jayson Blair "see no evil, hear no evil" editorial leadership at the Times, when the Times licensed all kinds of licentious conduct.) Johnston goes even further in his book than the Times could allow -- invading the privacy of taxpayers and whispering confidential information about politically prominent critics in his book, especially those who raised questions about governmental fraud in the agency, even though this information is illegal for the government to disclose. The war on dissent continues.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal grand jury indicted anti-tax author Irwin Schiff and two associates Wednesday, charging them with conspiracy to defraud the United States by helping others file false tax returns. Schiff, the author of "The Federal Mafia: How It Illegally Imposes and Unlawfully Collects Income Taxes," argues there is no legal requirement to pay income taxes. Government lawyers have been pursuing civil actions that would bar Schiff from selling his book and from holding tax seminars.

"There is no magic way out of paying taxes," said Eileen O'Connor, assistant U.S. attorney general for the tax division in Washington, D.C.

The 33-count indictment issued in Las Vegas charges Schiff, Cynthia Neun and Lawrence Cohen with aiding and assisting in the preparation and filing of fraudulent tax returns. Schiff and Cohen also were charged with tax evasion. Neun will face
additional charges of willfully failing to file federal income tax returns, Social Security disability fraud and theft of government property.

If convicted, Schiff faces a maximum sentence totaling 43 years in prison and $3.25 million in fines. Neun, Schiff's girlfriend who helps him conduct seminars, could receive a 51-year sentence and $3.4 million in fines, and Cohen faces a maximum 27 years and $1.5 million in fines.

"The indictment today reminds us that fulfilling individual tax obligations is a legal requirement and those who willfully evade that responsibility will be prosecuted," said Nancy Jardini, who oversees criminal investigations for the Internal Revenue Service.

Schiff, 76, said he will file a motion to dismiss. "At my arraignment, I will plead guilty to all the charges if they can show me a law in the code that says persons earning income are liable for income taxes," Schiff said.

The senators are working to advance reforms of vehicle and intellectual property donations through their foreign sales corporation/extraterritorial income act bill, which is pending before the full Senate.

OECD countries have made major progress in their efforts to eliminate harmful tax practices in their economies, modifying or abolishing more than 30 of the preferential tax regimes identified in 2000 as potentially harmful.

Medicare Modernization Act provisions that he said would reduce fraud and abuse, control hospital costs by improving preventative care for seniors, bring lower-priced generic drugs to market sooner and stimulate competition among private care providers to lower costs.

NCPA studies show that the current system encourages people to work fewer hours and produce fewer goods and services, imposing an economic cost of 11 cents to 18 cents for every dollar of tax revenue collected.

The ability of governments to borrow enables politicians, bureaucrats and the constituencies that receive succor at the public trough to live beyond the means they seized from taxpayers, knowing full well that the exploited, productive class will also foot the bill due to investors keen on purchasing government bonds.

Mr. Raymond's got a lot of nerve. With tens of millions of law-abiding
Americans gladly giving nearly half of their annual income to the Internal
Revenue Service, he thinks the IRS has an obligation to answer a bunch of
asinine questions from people like him.

I know, I know, he's Robert Raymond, an independent candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Wisconsin in 2002, and now represents the People for Truth in Taxation, so he thinks this gives him the right to question the integrity and efficiency of the IRS.

Well, his questions are frivolous and annoying and they're making the
hard-working employees at the IRS angry, frustrated and depressed. And I
don't blame them.

For example, Mr. Raymond has the gall to ask the IRS what law makes
citizens liable for their individual income tax. That's embarrassing. They
don't need to know. All the IRS wants is for them to they pay their taxes
and stop complaining. Is that so hard?

Then Mr. Raymond fired four loaded and unnecessary questions at the IRS
people, and to show you how silly his questions were, let's take them one
at a time.

In a truly free economy, interest rates are determined by market forces rather than central economic planners.

The tax on potato chips, pretzels, popped popcorn and other items is expected to raise $16 million in new annual revenue.

Her eyesight was blurring by the time she read the matter-of-fact postscript: "You will find my body on the north side of the house." For a few desperate, hopeful seconds Kay thought it might be one of Alex's practical jokes, and he would jump out from hiding and surprise her.

The comptroller went further, saying some companies are actually getting tax breaks while decreasing their work force.

In a setback for Bush, the Senate's budget would require 60 of the 100 senators to approve any tax cuts or spending increases in benefit programs that increase the deficit. It is uncertain whether a final House-Senate compromise budget will include such restrictions.

The Senate is poised to pass a budget resolution that lays the groundwork for substantial tax increases while avoiding even minimal cuts in spending.

The House panel's blueprint includes money to extend three popular tax breaks - the child tax credit, marriage penalty relief and the 10 percent tax rate - that are due to expire next year.

You can't without a Social Security Number. Without a Social Security number you can't work, buy or sell, get utilities, medical treatment, a loan, hunt, drive a car, or get a license to engage in whatever profession you are trained for. Another words, someone controls your right to exist, to work, to take care of your family. And what happens when you resist and tell the plantation owner that you are being treated harshly, that these conditions violate your religious beliefs. (#3 punishment) You see, dissent is not allowed. If you resist, your property will be taken without even being charged with a crime or ever seeing a judge. Due process is whatever they say it is, generally consisting of meeting with the bureaucrat (bossman for the plantation owner) who is trying to abuse you, not going before a court of law or seeing a judge. If you don't like the outcome too bad. Just because you don't see the chains doesn't mean there not there. Of course, if you are a good slave they may let you pick the cotton field you get to work in. We are being treated like property. That monetary booms are corrosive of morals and ethical behaviour is a sad fact that has been commented on innumerable times. The late Lionel Robbins, a British economist, lamented that booms create "a favourable atmosphere for the fraudulent operations of sharks and swindlers. Tax Truth Spam Hits Wisconsin State Agencies Hard

An ambitious citizen involved in the tax truth movement made the news recently for allegedly targeting e-mail addresses of all state employees with a provocative email. The message apparently caused enough of a stir, being received multiple times by state employees, that it caught the attention of Tom Sheehan - a government reporter. Think you've got too much spam at home?

Consider the 540,000 or so repetitions of a single e-mail message that were floating around state offices last weekend.

The subject line was: "The IRS has an Income Tax Problem." A tax protester apparently targeted e-mail addresses of all state employees, sending some employees the same e-mail multiple times on Feb. 1, said Werner Gade, who oversees e-mail administrators for the Department of Administration.

The problem was compounded when some employees replied to the message, unwittingly sending it back again to the entire list of state employees, said Dave Hinrichs, deputy chief information officer for the department.

Some state government e-mail administrators last weekend kicked into overtime to clear the hundreds of thousands of extraneous e-mails.

Some legislative staffers at the Capitol reported receiving the message dozens of times in recent weeks. And the message may still be working its way out of the system as individual users delete it from their accounts, Hinrichs said.

Some private companies and other government agencies also reported receiving the message.

Access to the list has been restricted to prevent further distribution within the department, Henrichs said. Other state agencies have had to deal with the problem individually, however, because there is no central state e-mail server, Hinrichs said.

Gade said he did not know how the addresses were acquired, but some senders of spam use programs that search for e-mail addresses on large servers. He said that he doesn't believe there is anything illegal about sending the messages.

We have been Infiltrated

It seems it didn’t take long for the defenders of the status quo to find us. There are millions of American’s who feed off the cash cow called the United States government. Some do it for the money, some for power and the connections that come with defending the indefensible. The plantation bossmen who do it for the money, like accountants and tax attorneys, can always say that their actions where founded in fear or ignorance.

Then there are those who do it for the fun of it, just as ignorant, who enjoy watching the exercise of raw power for the pleasure of it. They are no different than the Brown Shirts, they spout the party line about how Mother Sam will take care of us if we just listen to her and always be obedient to her.

Ronald Reagan memorably complained about "welfare queens," but he never told us that the biggest welfare queens are the already wealthy. Their lobbyists fawn over politicians, giving them little bits of money -- campaign contributions, plane trips, dinners, golf outings -- in exchange for huge chunks of taxpayers’ money. Millionaires who own your favorite sports teams get subsidies, as do millionaire farmers, corporations, and well-connected plutocrats of every variety. Even successful, wealthy TV journalists.

That’s right, I got some of your money too.

My Life as a Welfare Queen

In 1980 I built a wonderful beach house. Four bedrooms -- every room with a view of the Atlantic Ocean.

It was an absurd place to build, right on the edge of the ocean. All that stood between my house and ruin was a hundred feet of sand.

For those following my continuing battle to expose IRS wrongdoing and the IRS’s attempts to silence and discredit me for doing so, you will recall that on January 23rd, 2004 I submitted to the Secretary of the Treasury a 50 page appeal of Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Moran’s “Initial Decision” to “disbar” me from “practice” before the IRS. I just received word that the IRS has filed a legal brief replying to my appeal to the Secretary. I have not yet read the IRS’s reply brief but my attorneys say it is truly startling because the IRS actually admits its true objective – a “Silence Advocacy Project”. That's right...the IRS wants to use the “DOP” (Director of Practice) as a secret police force to monitor and punish political advocacy. This secret police force is based on a very similar Nixon-era secret group within the IRS used to punish war protestors in the late 60s. Is it any surprise that the agency fought so hard to limit all discovery (my right to learn details about the government’s evidence and witnesses) in the case against me? Is it any surprise that the IRS is desperately fighting my appeal?

The “Silence Advocacy Project” uses the IRS Director of Practice and its little Hoover-like enforcers such as Mr. David Finz (whom my counselors of law proved committed perjury in my case) to silence all advocates and advocacy it disfavors. First, these enforcers monitored my political appearances, then admitted that the referral of the IRS complaint against me resulted from my talk radio appearances. (Apparently IRS officials simply can not tolerate one of their former criminal investigators telling America the truth about the agency’s deceitful and illegal practices.) Where did the IRS acquire the authority to engage in such monitoring of 1st Amendment activities?
