Fulton Armstrong advises that La Jornada, one of Mexico’s leading national newspapers, has frontpaged a translation of VIPS’ Memorandum of April 4 to President Trump, urging caution regarding Venezuela.
Here is the link to the article in La Jornada:

And the link to the earlier VIPS Memo is here:

Fulton Armstrong was principal drafter of the VIPS Memo; he been National Intelligence Officer for Latin America, and also National Security Council Director for Inter-American Affairs. La Jornada placed the VIPS Memo at the center of its front page today, Sunday, under the headline: Intervenir en Venezuela llevará a la guerra con Rusia, alertan a Trump (“Trump is warned that intervention in Venezuela could lead to war with Russia.”)

Here’s how La Jornada introduced its readers to VIPS, below which we offer an informal English translation:

Desperation in US over failure to topple Maduro | Intrepid Report.com – Stephen Lendman

So far, every Trump regime tactic used to try toppling Maduro and eliminate Venezuelan social democracy failed.

Scripted by his US handlers, Guaido’s January 23 self-declaration as interim Venezuelan president failed to gain popular support. It’s mostly coming from well-off individuals and business interests, Maduro backed by his base in the barrios.

The Trump regime’s February 23 false flag failed—its trojan horse “humanitarian aid” PR stunt falling flat, failing to get Venezuelan military support as hoped for.

The aim of Trump hardliners to get worldwide support for the coup plot fell woefully short. It’s backed almost entirely by regional and EU imperial partners—vassal states acting as US colonies. Three-fourths of the world community and the UN oppose the scheme.

Trump’s CIA now unbound and back to its traditional hijinks | Intrepid Report.com – Wayne Madsen

March 20, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

Under the directorship of torture and black site maven Gina Haspel, Donald Trump’s Central Intelligence Agency has returned to its traditional roots of conducting “black bag” operations and disrupting electrical grids through cyber-attacks.

The Venezuelan government has accused the Trump administration of giving the green light for a series of crippling power failures in Venezuela, which affected 22 of Venezuela’s 23 states, including the capital of Caracas. The long-duration power failures were cited by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as a reason for the US withdrawing its diplomats from Caracas. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that an international commission assisted by specialists from Russia, China, Iran, and the United Nations would help his country analyze the sources of the Venezuelan electrical grid cyber-attack. Initial cyber-forensics by Venezuela traced some of the cyber warfare being waged against Venezuela to nodes in Houston and Chicago.

Presstitutes Turn Blind Eye to UN Report on Venezuela – PaulCraigRoberts.org

Don’t you think something is fishy when the presstitutes orchestrate a fake news “humanitarian crisis” in Venezuela, but totally ignore the real humanitarian crises in Yemen and Gaza?

Don’t you think something is really very rotten when the expert, Alfred Maurice de Zayas,  sent by the UN to Venezuela to evaluate the situation finds no interest by any Western media or any Western government in his report?

Don’t you think it is a bit much for Washington to steal $21 billion of Venezuela’s money, impose sanctions in an effort to destabilize the country and to drive the Venezuelan government to its knees, blame Venezuelan socialism (essentially nationalization of the oil company) for bringing “starvation to the people,” and offer a measly $21 million in “humanitarian aid.”

The Recolonization of Latin America and the War on Venezuela – James Petras

March 7, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

Not since the US pronounced the Monroe Doctrine proclaiming its imperial supremacy over Latin America, nearly 200 years ago, has a White House regime so openly affirmed its mission to recolonize Latin America.

The second decade of the 21st century has witnessed, in word and deed, the most thorough and successful US recolonization of Latin America, and its active and overt role as colonial sepoys of an imperial power.

In this paper we will examine the process of recolonization and the strategy tactics and goals which are the driving forces of colony- building. We will conclude by discussing the durability, stability and Washington’s capacity to retain ownership of the Hemisphere.

–Venezuela: The ongoing U.S. intervention in Colombia is as pure a Neoconservative operation as it is possible to imagine. The Neocons want to kick out one socialist president and install another socialist president, a process they describe as an effort to reestablish a Venezuelan democracy.

Now, why would any American believe this? We have seen the Neocons do the same thing in Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, etc. and none of those mad crusades yielded anything approximating a democratic or republican system of government. What they yielded were dead and maimed Americans and a bankrupt U.S. Treasury. Indeed, while the Neocons insist that they are spreading democracy in Venezuela, they are resolutely backing their colleagues in the NATO governments, even as most of those regimes are actively adopting laws suppressing free speech; ignoring majority votes of the electorate; arresting and jailing citizens for opposing government policy, especially on immigration; limiting the right of assembly; and, naturally, increasing efforts to stop any flow of weapons to their long-disarmed and now migrant-and regime-besieged citizenry, knowing that civil wars are coming in several NATO countries.

The Chef Boyardee War: Venezuela’s Clueless Opposition – Antiwar.com Original – Justin Raimondo

My contrarian view of Venezuela’s regime change drama – that it’s regime change theater put on by President Trump for purely domestic political reasons – was confirmed on the big day when the conflict was supposed to come to a head, when the looming confrontation proved to be … dueling concerts! Regime change as entertainment – there’s something so American about that.

What the heck, a little music is what every regime change operation needs: however, the theme song of this one is turning out to be more John Cage than John Philip Sousa. Instead of “President” Guaidó rallying his forces and leading them into battle, he’s trying to cross a bridge that has never been used with 1000 cans of Chef Boyardee, 500 cartons of mac-and-cheese, and enough airline “food” (courtesy of Richard Branson) to kill off a number of Chavistas.

Max Blumental Proves Western Media A Propagandist For War Criminals

There is not an ounce of integrity anywhere in the Western print and TV media

“Grocery shelves lie empty as food becomes increasingly scarce” in Venezuela, the UK Independent weeps. The country’s shops remain open but “sparsely stocked,” The Guardian laments. Even “basic commodities” such as toothbrushes aren’t available for purchase, CNN bemoans. “Hungry”Venezuelans must choose between “torture or starvation,” Bloomberg grimly concludes.

Mainstream media coverage of Venezuela gives the impression that President Nicolas Maduro is slowly starving his own people – a narrative which, as journalist Max Blumenthal found after surveying a massive supermarket in Caracas, is wildly deceptive.

In the Venezuelan crisis, said President Donald Trump in Florida, “All options are on the table.” And if Venezuela’s generals persist in their refusal to break with Nicolas Maduro, they could “lose everything.”

Another example of Yankee bluster and bluff?

Or is Trump prepared to use military force to bring down Maduro and install Juan Guaido, the president of the national assembly who has declared himself president of Venezuela?

We will get an indication this weekend, as a convoy of food and humanitarian aid tries to force its way into Venezuela from Colombia.

Venezuela Under Washington’s Gun – PaulCraigRoberts.org

February 19, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

A full court press is taking place in Florida today (Presidents Day) with Republicans, Democrats, expatriates from Cuba and Venezuela and the fascist warmonger ministry of propaganda that constitutes the US media all denouncing Maduro and blaming him for the hardships imposed on Venezuelans by Washington’s sanctions and attacks on Venezuela’s currency . Even “liberal” NPR is reading off the same fascist warmonger script. NPR managed to report on Venezuela without mentioning the sanctions, without mentioning the theft of Venezuela’s gold foolishly entrusted to the US and British central banks, or the orchestrated protests funded by US-financed NGOs that are small in comparison with the crowds that support Maduro that are never mentioned in the US media. In other words, NPR is just another part of the whorehouse brigade.

What Americans forget, or never knew, is that the Cuban expatriates are the descendents of the corrupt Batista crowd that had looted Cuba for years and were thrown out of Cuba by Castro. The Venezuelan expatriates are from the rich elite that couldn’t adjust to Chavez running the country for the people instead of for them, and some of these expatriates were involved in the failed CIA coup against Chavez. All of these expatriates are nothing but shills for Washington’s takeover so that they can get back in on the take.

For challenging Israeli brutality against Palestinians, House Republicans and Dems want Omar removed from its Foreign Relations Committee.

During her short tenure in Congress so far, Omar courageously criticized Israeli apartheid ruthlessness and challenged Elliott Abrams’ involvement in high crimes of war and against humanity.

Lots more like her are needed in Congress, among the fourth estate, and throughout US society—challenging imperial lawlessness, US high crimes too egregious to ignore, going further by demanding accountability.

Venezuela Is An Opportunity For Russia And China To Change The World – PaulCraigRoberts.org

February 10, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

Nothing better illustrates Washington’s opposition to democracy and self-determination than the blatantly public coup Washington has organized against the properly elected president of Venezuela.

Washington has been trying to overthrow the Venezuelan government for years. Washington wants the state owned oil company to be privatized so that it can fall into the hands of US oil companies. That would ensure Washington’s control over Venezuela. Transferring the wealth out of the country would prevent any economic development from inside the country. Every aspect of the economy would end up in the hands of US corporations. The exploitation would be ruthless and brutal.

Venezuelans understand this, which is why Washington, despite wrecking the Venezuelan economy and offering enormous bribes to the Venezuelan military, has not yet been able to turn the people and the troops against Maduro.

Cold War 2.0 has hit South America with a bang – pitting the US and expected minions against the four key pillars of in-progress Eurasia integration: Russia, China, Iran and Turkey.

It’s the oil, stupid. But there’s way more than meets the (oily) eye.

Caracas has committed the ultimate cardinal sin in the eyes of Exceptionalistan; oil trading bypassing the US dollar or US-controlled exchanges.

Remember Iraq. Remember Libya. Yet Iran is also doing it. Turkey is doing it. Russia is – partially – on the way. And China will eventually trade all its energy in petroyuan.

Uh Oh – Please Tell Me That The U.S. Is Not About To Go To War With Venezuela…Michael Snyder

February 5, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

Is the United States about to be dragged into another pointless war that will drag on for years?  Have we learned nothing form the wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq?  When Juan Guaido boldly declared himself the new leader of Venezuela during an opposition rally on January 23rd, everybody realized that something was up.  There is no way that he ever would have done that unless he knew in advance that the United States was going to publicly back him.  And when John Bolton appeared at a White House briefing with “5,000 troops to Colombia” scribbled on a yellow note pad, it became exceedingly clear what was about to happen.  Diplomatic pressure would be used to try to force Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro from power, but if that didn’t work then regime change would be achieved by force.

It is undeniable that Maduro has made an awful hash of his job, but he still retains the loyalty of military chiefs and a substantial chunk of the voting public. Moreover, among those interviewed who wish him gone are people who say they would rather give him another chance than open the door to ‘gringos’ and the potential of a civil war or invasion. Right now there are two competing presidents, but only one commands the military and security forces.

Once again a geopolitical power game is underway couched in a humanitarian pretext and in just about every such case the people end up the greatest losers. Nicolas Maduro would be wise to call for a new ballot, one that is legitimised by international observers; not because he feels threatened by the usual suspects, but because doing so would be a first step towards healing his divided nation.

Mexico is starting to look like Venezuela | The Daily Bell – Simon Black

January 29, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

Oil thieves have been drilling holes in Mexico’s extensive network of oil and gas piplelines across the country to steal fuel and sell it on the black market.

State-owned oil company PEMEX found more than 12,500 illegal holes in the pipelines last year.

And these oil thieves went as far as building a 2-mile long pipe themselves to divert oil directly from the refineries.

Selling oil on the secondary market is a highly lucrative business in Mexico. And some farmers who take up a job as lookouts for the thieves can earn more than five times their regular income doing so.

First, Venezuela’s government does not and never has represented any kind of military threat to the United States. It has never invaded the United States. It has never attacked the United States. It has never threatened to do either, nor does it seem to be well-equipped to do so if it desired to.

Secondly, Venezuela is not and never has been either a state or territory of the United States. It achieved independence from Spain in 1821 as part of the Republic of Gran Colombia, and became a completely independent nation in 1830.

Taken together, these two facts lead inexorably to one conclusion:

How Venezuelans choose to conduct their political affairs never has been and is not now the business of the US government.

Trump’s Neocons will lie to Americans that a Venezuelan war is obligatory under the Monroe Doctrine | Non-Intervention2 – Michael Scheuer

January 27, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

In surveying a possible answers to the question “Why does Venezuela matter of the United States?”, it is difficult to come up with an answer that does not begin with the word “oil”. Because Maduro has mostly completed the ruination of Venezuela’s economy – especially the oil sector — so ably begun by Hugo Chavez, U.S. oil companies probably are pushing the Trump administration to intervene and create a U.S.-picked Venezuelan president and regime to repay what U.S. oil corporations are owed, and so that the companies themselves can pick up the remnants of the Venezuelan oil industry ‘s facilities for pennies on the dollar.

When the oil industry is calling the tune, all U.S. presidents and vice-presidents must dance its dance. But they cover their lapdog-obedience with rhetoric about the “illegitimacy of the Maduro regime”, the “need for new elections”, the “vast sufferings of the Venezuelan people”, and, of course, the “need to reinstall freedom and democracy” in that country. Whenever the leaders of the national government are trying to persuade Americans that the republic needs another unnecessary war, they wheel out the language of values and abstract theories, neither of which have any legitimate role to play in the formulation of an effective America First foreign policy.
