Venezuelan Stand-Off – Antiwar.com Original – Justin Raimondo

The war over Venezuela is about to take a new turn, with most of the fighting taking place in the form of dueling policy papers while the soldiers on both sides of the barricades are stuck in the trenches, not attacking but merely defending what they already have.

Insofar as the rebels are concerned, their assets consist chiefly of a Potemkin Village of international endorsements from American allies and the American media. These are the so-called Sofa Samurai, which were supposed to be hailing the would-be success of “President” Juan Guaido as his civilian partisans appealed to the military to switch sides and align themselves with “the people.”

Yet these wannabe Samurai never seemed to get off the sofa: ignored and jeered at by the military, they have focused their efforts on the American embassy in Caracas where an ongoing back-and-forth has been taking place, but only minor violence. The rebels were slated to march to the Embassy while cheering crowds were supposedly scheduled to greet them with flowers. None of that happened. Instead, the jeering continued and there was no break in the stand-off.

Behold The Breathtaking Weakness Of The Empire! – Zero Hedge – The Saker

The Empire has suffered painful defeats in Afghanistan and Iraq, but one has to admit that these are “tough” countries to crack.  The Empire also appears to have lost control of Libya, but that is another complex country which is very hard to control.  We also saw all the pathetic huffing and puffing with the DPRK.  But, let’s be honest, the USA never stood a chance to bully the DPRK into submission, nevermind invading or regime-changing it.  Syria was much weaker, but here Russia, Iran and Hezbollah did a world class job of repelling all the Anglo Zionist attacks, political and military.  Besides, I for one will never blame Trump for not listening to Bolton and not triggering WWIII over Syria (yet?)

But Venezuela?!

No Hezbollah or Iran backing Maduro there.  And Venezuela is way too far away from Russia to allow her to do what she did in Syria.  In fact, Venezuela is in the proverbial “backyard” of the USA and is surrounded by hostile puppet regimes.  And yet, tonight, it appears that the US puppet Guaidó has failed in his coup attempt.

Moon of Alabama did a great job covering the events of the day, so I will refer you to the excellent article “Venezuela – Random Guyaidó’s New Coup Attempt Turns Out to Be A Dangerous Joke“.  I fully concur that today’s coup was both a joke and very dangerous.

Let Venezuela Decide Its Own Destiny | Patrick J. Buchanan – Official Website

This week, when Guaido called out the crowds again to bring the strongman down, the White House went all in.

“Who would be free themselves must strike the blow…

“By their right arms the conquest must be wrought.”

So wrote Lord Byron of Greece’s war of independence against the Turks, though the famed British poet would ignore his own counsel and die just days after arriving in Greece to join the struggle.

Yet Byron’s advice is the wise course for the United States, and for the people of Venezuela who seek to free their country of the grip of the incompetent and dictatorial regime of Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela: Failed Coup Argues for New Approach – Consortiumnews – Fulton Armstrong

The Trump administration’s approach to Venezuela have both policy and intelligence failure written all over them. But its spokesmen continue to think that louder condemnations of President Nicolás Maduro and macho threats will somehow work. They can huff and puff as furiously as they want, but some houses – even houses run by less-than-competent authoritarian leaders – aren’t so easily blown down.

Venezuelan National Assembly President Juan Guaidó’s coup attempt on Tuesday was doomed from the start. Whether he and his Washington backers were simply deluding themselves, or whether Maduro’s guys masterfully tricked them, they naively thought the military high command would hoist Guaidó on their shoulders and carry him to Miraflores Palace as president.

What happened instead was a huge – potentially fatal in political terms – embarrassment for Guaidó and the U.S. government.

Ron Paul Warns: “Hapless” Guaido Now “Worth More Dead Than Alive” To Washington’s Venezuelan Coup-Creators | Zero Hedge

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido failed to kick-start a military uprising on Tuesday. After this fizzle, RT reports that his life may be in danger from his own CIA backers, the director of the Ron Paul Institute argued in a debate.

Daniel McAdams and Ron Paul, the former libertarian representative from Texas, discussed the repeated attempts by Guaido to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro with the backing from the US government. Despite all the efforts, Maduro remains in power, supported by many Venezuelans and in control of its military and police forces.

Paul said he was concerned that the Latin American country may be plunged into large-scale violence by some provocation.

“The big danger is a hard war breaking out. I’d still bet it won’t be too bad, with thousands of troops moving. But it could be a guerrilla war or something like that. If there is a false flag or some important official on either side gets killed, you can’t tell what might happen,” he said.

Desperation in US over failure to topple Maduro | Intrepid Report.com – Stephen Lendman

So far, every Trump regime tactic used to try toppling Maduro and eliminate Venezuelan social democracy failed.

Scripted by his US handlers, Guaido’s January 23 self-declaration as interim Venezuelan president failed to gain popular support. It’s mostly coming from well-off individuals and business interests, Maduro backed by his base in the barrios.

The Trump regime’s February 23 false flag failed—its trojan horse “humanitarian aid” PR stunt falling flat, failing to get Venezuelan military support as hoped for.

The aim of Trump hardliners to get worldwide support for the coup plot fell woefully short. It’s backed almost entirely by regional and EU imperial partners—vassal states acting as US colonies. Three-fourths of the world community and the UN oppose the scheme.
