Nahla Al-Arian: Mark Dankof's America Guest on RBN Radio, Friday, March 2nd

Nahla Al-Arian, the wife of Palestinian activist Sami Al-Arian, will join "Mark Dankof's America" on the Republic Broadcasting Network on Friday, March 2nd, from 9 am to 10 am EST/8 am to 9 am CST. Listening information, either live or archived, may be obtained through the Republic Broadcasting Network web site at http://www.republicbroadcasting.org.

A briefing on the Sami Al-Arian case from December, 2005:

"On December 6, 2005, a jury found former University of South Florida computer science professor Sami Al-Arian not guilty on 8 of 17 charges relating to his alleged support for Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The jury deadlocked on the remainder of the charges.

"The jury’s decision is a significant and largely unexpected defeat for the government, which saw Al-Arian’s trial as a test case for the use of the Patriot Act in spying on US citizens and residents. It has also been a major component of the government’s attempt to criminalize political dissent. Al-Arian based his case on the fundamental constitutional right to free speech, which the government is seeking to systematically undermine, using the so-called 'war on terrorism' as a pretext.

"Sami Al-Arian continues to serve in a federal detention center in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina in the United States. He is currently on a hunger strike in its 39th day, and has lost 43 pounds since the beginning of this campaign. His own web site may be accessed at:

."

"Mark Dankof's America" airs through the RBN site on the WWW, on international shortwave, and on selected conventional radio affiliates, including WMQM-AM 1600 in Memphis, TN, a 50,000 watt acquisition for the show in recent weeks.
