Kerry’s lies, and they are almost Clintonesque, are very significant in the context of his lifestyle. He will do and say anything to get his way, to hell with principles and standards.

The Left will line up behind this right-wing, pro-imperialist anyway -- stupidly, desperately, unsure what do to, but to toss the dice once again, in a fixed game. And if that's not as absurd as the US staying in Iraq over the objections of a vast majority of Iraqis, for democracy, what is?

The foolish President complicated his folly by putting Bremer, a known entity, in charge. Bremer occupied Saddam Hussein's offices, violated all standing principles for a U.S. occupying military force, and copied every bad kind of act, to the present day, for which Saddam Hussein had been accused by his own Iraq opponents.

I don't necessarily buy into the theory that the US military, military intelligence, or the Israelis, either on their own or in cahoots with the above, killed Nick Berg. But I cannot discount it either, especially considering the repeated and continuous lies of the Bush administration and the blood-spattered history of US intelligence, especially the CIA.

I find it incomprehensible that as the failure of our Iraq policy becomes more evident – even to its most determined advocates -we here are approving the same kind of policy toward Iran.

The U.S. government translation of one statement made on the film is: "Does al Qaeda need any further excuses?" This is a falsification. The actual statement urged fellow insurgents to get off their hind ends and do something. One assumes the translator being used by the US military is a native speaker of Arabic, so this cannot be explained as an innocent flub. This suggests the US government wanted to inject an alleged al- Qaeda group into the murder of Nick Berg.

The denizens of Free Republic ferociously turned on Jessica Lynch on a dime when she dared puncture the racist garbage they had spouted about how her Iraqi doctors cared for her. I suspect that they'll revive their enemies list and make sure that Michael Berg's name is still on it.

To what extent have the policies of the Bush administration - and the values and attitudes that have characterized the conduct of the so-called war against terror - contributed to a state of mind and morale in the American military that opened the way to the torture, abuse and, in some cases, apparent murder of prisoners in Iraq?
