Joyeux Noёl: The Beginnings of WWI and the Christmas Truce of 1914 – The Occidental Observer

With the hindsight offered by ninety-nine years, it is obvious that the outbreak of the World War I marked not merely the beginning of the most destructive war in history up to that time, but a fundamental civilizational watershed. While the fighting was going on, nearly all participants assumed they had been forced into the struggle by naked aggression from the other side. It took historians years to unravel what had actually happened.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the German Army was the best in Europe, capable of defeating any individual rival. Yet Germany had no natural borders, and was vulnerable to a joint attack on two fronts: by France and Britain in the West and the Russian Empire in the East. A German defeat was considered virtually inevitable in such a scenario.

The Franco-Russian alliance of 1894, which became the Triple Entente when Britain joined in 1907, realized Germany’s worst fears.

Donald Trump’s Plan for the Middle East and Syria – Rolling Stone

So we’re withdrawing troops from the Middle East.

GOOD!

What’s the War on Terror death count by now, a half-million? How much have we spent, $5 trillion? Five-and-a-half?

For that cost, we’ve destabilized the region to the point of abject chaos, inspired millions of Muslims to hate us, and torn up the Geneva Convention and half the Constitution in pursuit of policies like torture, kidnapping, assassination-by-robot and warrantless detention.

Target Liberty: Stone’s Demand To Release His Testimony | Roger Stone | Stone Cold Truth

December 25, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Target Liberty has exclusively obtained the letter, sent by Roger Stone’s attorney, Grant J. Smith, to  Chairman Devin Nunes of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, demanding the release of the transcript of Stone’s testimony before the committee.

The demand comes on the heels of reports that special counselor Robert Mueller has sought and obtained a copy of the transcript and on the heels of leaks about the testimony which Stone alleges have  taken his testimony out of context.

It appears that committee members and their staffs, the special counselor and Stone’s enemies are all now in possession of the official transcript. Only the public remains in the dark, darkness that keeps the public from fully understanding the full context of statements made by Stone during his testimony on this very important matter which may have consequences for the President of the United States and Stone.

The Rutherford Institute :: Government Shutdown or Not, the Police State Will Continue to Flourish |

The government has shut down again.

At least, parts of the government have temporarily shut down over President Trump’s demand for a $5 billion border wall.

Yet while these political games dominate news headlines, send the stock market into a nosedive, and put more than 800,000 federal employees at risk of having to work without pay, nothing about this government shutdown will diminish the immediate and very real dangers of the American Police State with its roadside strip searches, government surveillance, biometric databases, citizens being treated like terrorists, imprisonments for criticizing the government, national ID cards, SWAT team raids, censorship, forcible blood draws and DNA extractions, private prisons, weaponized drones, red light cameras, tasers, active shooter drills, police misconduct and government corruption.

Christmas 2018: Not the Worst of Times | Patrick J. Buchanan – Official Website

“Deck the halls with boughs of holly,” goes the old Christmas carol. “‘Tis the season to be jolly.” Yet if there were a couplet less befitting the mood of this capital city, I am unaware of it.

“The wheels are coming off,” was a common commentary on the Trump presidency on Sunday’s talk shows. And the ostensible causes of what is looking like a panic in the political establishment?

The December crash of the stock and bond markets, the worst since the Great Recession. The shutdown of a fourth of the U.S. government over the Trump border wall. The president’s decision to pull 2,200 troops out of Syria. Resignation, in protest of Donald Trump’s treatment of U.S. allies, by Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
