Mnuchin Called Bank CEOs To Check Liquidity, Calm Markets; Has Monday Call With Plunge Protection Team | Zero Hedge

Update: With everyone suddenly freaking out over whether (and why) Mnuchin really made the kind of “liquidity test” call to bank CEOs that was reserved for the depth of the financial crisis, moments ago Mnuchin himself tweeted out details of his Sunday call (from Cabo), the gist of which is that Mnuchin was checking bank liquidity levels for “loans and other market operations” with the CEOs of the 6 largest banks, and even more importantly, on Monday Mnuchin will hold a call with the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets, better known as the Plunge Protection Team.

In other words, what was expected to be a sleepy Monday half-day session, is about to get a lot more violent.

Land Destroyer: Washington’s Russiagate Conspiracy Theory on Life Support

The latest bid to keep Washington’s desperate Russiagate conspiracy theory alive has energized distilled segments of the public still convinced of Moscow’s global omniscience and its role in manipulating and undermining virtually every aspect of their daily lives.

But recent “revelations” are simply the same accusations made against a Russian-based click-bait farm, repackaged and respun.

The Washington Post’s article, “New report on Russian disinformation, prepared for the Senate, shows the operation’s scale and sweep,” would in fact present no new report. Instead, it would present repackaged narratives involving “Russia’s disinformation campaign around the 2016 election.”

Christmas in an Amazon Culture

Remembering the days when you shopped until you dropped seems to be from a time when socializing meant actually interacting with other people. Toys “Я” Us has lost its appeal because the reverse dynamics of spoiling the toddlers resists the challenge of braving the elements and cold temperatures to put wrapped presents under an artificial tree. Now, if it cannot arrive at the door delivered by USPS, UPS or FedEx; it’s just not desirable. The consumer culture has made a giant leap into the cyber space of emptiness and irrelevancy. Spending money and spreading the wealth no longer operates under the same rules that enriched the growth in the (PCE) personal consumption expenditures. The void of satisfaction in buying trendy gadgets and stylist apparel feeds a basic isolation from meaning or contentment.

IT’S A BOILING POT ready to erupt and no one knows what the spoon will pull out.

And when it comes to ’sworn’ testimonies in midnight tweets, Trump’s policies digitized on Twitter are hard hunks to swallow.

Rand Paul might be the first to have the spoon stuck down his throat.

“Americans are tired of war,” Paul told CNN today regarding Trump’s tweeted Syrian pullout, “money spent on combat abroad is better spent on roads, bridges, and schools at home.”

Last April the senator specified that Trump confided that “We’re getting the hell out of Afghanistan” assuring him he’d be returning to the non-interventionist policies that he championed as a candidate.

If Truth Cannot Prevail Over Material Agendas We Are Doomed – PaulCraigRoberts.org

Throughout the long Cold War Stephen Cohen, professor of Russian studies at Princeton University and New York University was a voice of reason. He refused to allow his patriotism to blind him to Washington’s contribution to the conflict and to criticize only the Soviet contribution. Cohen’s interest was not to blame the enemy but to work toward a mutual understanding that would remove the threat of nuclear war. Although a Democrat and left-leaning, Cohen would have been at home in the Reagan administration, as Reagan’s first priority was to end the Cold War. I know this because I was part of the effort. Pat Buchanan will tell you the same thing.
